With so many rules and regulations, you may think the airlines are having much fun toying with us by frustrating on whole packing matter. But in reality, for a safe and smooth journey, for both you and the other passengers, rules are necessary.
And as someone genuinely caring about not only own self but also the surrounding, we must pay attention to rules. And try to follow them. Even if it’s bothering, at the end of day things will be better due to such mentality of many people. And you and I should be a part of this genuine crowd.
To pack following the airline’s rule, you should not only know about the check bag allowance but also what is allowed in a carry on bag. Let’s go through this matter today…
So, what is Allowed in a Carry on Bag & What is Not?
After knowing how much luggage can you take on a plane, the next thing to find out should be about what stuffs to carry along. If you simply bring items with ban accidentally, all your effort by maintaining the proper baggage size and weight will go in vain. As they can call you for checking and there may be further problems.
However, being afraid of carrying a certain thing that is actually pretty essential for your use, can also be a situation. So being aware of a few questionable items allowance will help you decide with complete freedom.
You Can Carry Small Items.
There are a few tiny tools that you can bring along inside the carry-on without any problem. These can have blades but not longer than 4 inches. For example, you can carry tiny scissors, nail clippers, and pill cutters. You can also go for screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches.
These however cannot be lengthier than seven inches. Any other type of tool should have proper wrapping. Epically if it has a cutting edge that is sharp. Then you can bring them in the checked baggage but not inside carry-on.
Things That Are Nonflammable.
You can bring most types of liquids. For example, makeup items, nail polish, liquid medicine, toner, contact lens solution, beverages, shampoo, perfume, and so on. A gel consistency is also okay to bring such as toothpaste or a regular hand sanitizer.
It can also be face serum or gel facewash, even the hair gel is acceptable. Stuffs that come with spray bottles or can are also allowed. Such as dry shampoo, hairspray, and deodorants. These fall under the aerosol category. The only rule you need to care about is product weight cannot be more than 3.4 ounces. Also, you may need to carry them inside a zipper plastic bag that is clear.
If you are using a certain product, let’s say a 6-ounce tub lotion is half-finished, you cannot bring it. The TSA security does not allow that. But then again, if it’s a medically compulsory liquid, exceptions can be available. Such as insulin for a diabetic person.
Bringing Lighters & Matchbox.
Carrying regular lighters are usually not a problem with most airlines. However, in the case of bringing a matchbox, it has to be the safe ones. If you are thinking about carrying a strike anywhere matchbox, then there can be a problem. This type of match is capable of lighting when striking against any dry and rough surface. And so, it can be dangerous. So, you should completely ignore it.
You Can Carry Dry Batteries.
You have permission to bring the regular packs of dry batteries. The AA, AAA, C & D ones typically. A lithium battery that comes with no more than 100-watt hours of powering is okay to bring inside plane. These usually are inside a device. If you are bringing loose ones, know that those are fine inside carry-on but not checked bags.
Knitting Needles & Gifts.
If you want to bring your knitting supplies inside the plane, it’s possible. But you need to wrap them when packing inside a checking necessary luggage. And with a carry-on, you should not have any trouble until you care enough to cause zero injuries on-board.
You can also have gift boxes that have wrappings on top. Just the content inside needs to meet security regulations. However, sometimes the security asks for unwrapping gifts and check inside for inspection. So, the best you can do is leave the gifts unwrapped. You can nicely wrap them after reaching your destination.
Electronics & Medical Equipment.
Portable electronics are not a problem to bring inside a carry-on. For example, you can carry a standard size laptop. Also, cell phones and tablets are allowed. If you are willing to carry full-size video game consoles or huge laptops then these should not be inside their cases. You can put them in a separate bin for individual screening at checkpoints.
You can carry over-the-counter medications and prescriptions inside the plane. The quantity is usually unspecified. Some necessary medication items such as sugar test kits, EpiPens, inhaler, crutches, and liquid nutrition is acceptable inside the plane. However, the stuffs need to be notified to screeners. And they need to go through additional screening.
Knowing what is allowed in a carry on bag before the big day will help you sort so many issues. That’s why you should start packing at least a week prior to the flight. While planning should be done one month before the date.
Because you won’t remember each and everything you’ll need in the plane at once. You will have days to add things to the carry-on baggage packing list as those start coming to your mind. And that way you’ll hardly leave any important thing behind.
